Halitosis, more commenly known as bad breath, can result from poor dental health habits.  It may also be an indicator of other health problems.

Bad breath is  caused from not brushing and flossing teeth daily.  This results in food patricles remaining in your mouth, which promotes bacterial growth between teeth, around the gums, and on the tongue.  Smoking is another cause.

Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be warning signs of gum (periodontal) disease.  If gum disease is untreated it can damage the gums and jawbone.

Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you practice good oral hygiene,  see your dentist regularly, drink lots of water,  and stop smoking.
